musings of an outdoorsman

Yep! Another Early Morning.

Welp, it’s 3:40am and here I am sitting in my chair, drinks and cigars on the side table, overlooking the woods waiting for the sun to rise. “don’t forget, you also have country music coming from the truck playing softly in the background. Oh wait, it’s a SUV, sorry”

“What time is it? Oof it’s 1230am, ugh!” I managed to go back to sleep, but by 2am I just couldn’t sleep anymore. I grabbed my laptop and perused various news sites for a while. “Yeah, there’s nothing new going on yet.” By 245am I was up and headed straight to the shower.

“Can I please have a pack of Russian Cream and Sweet Aromatic Backwoods?” I asked the clerk at the convenience store. It really is nice to once again be able to walk into a convenience store early in the morning—330am. In Montana, at least in the area I was staying, most places didn’t open until 6am. Certainly, Darby was completely shut down until 6am. Missoula had some 24hr open places, but not much. And actually, for being a smallish town, Hamilton had some places open 24hrs; That was nice.

I pulled over onto the edge of the berm, opened the rear door, grabbed my chair, set it down and opened it in front of the rear driver side tire. I opened the rear driver side passenger door so I could listen to country music coming from the door speaker. That damn open door chime when the front door is open is annoying. At least with the back door open it doesn’t come on. “I really need to disconnect That damn thing.”

You know, I’m really a simple man with simple needs. Let me be me and you be you.

My time back home is short. I head back to Montana on Sunday the 7th. I’ll fly into Bozeman then make my way up to Butte. I get there a week ahead of the general crew to help coordinate logistics. Honestly, most of that work is done already. I’m more likely to spend most of my time outdoors next week. “Yeah, famous last words. You’re probably going to be slammed with work.”

Today’s the 1st of August. Hard to believe I’ve been gone since May and am only here for the week. Doesn’t look like I’ll be back until December. At this point, I’ll probably be in Montana for Thanksgiving, who knows. In this business things can be pretty fluid. For now, I’m going to enjoy my short time back home.

Oh hey, that picture attached to this article isn’t mine. I found it on Pexel and belongs to Alex Evans. I didn’t think you wanted to see another sunrise shot, so put up something different.
