musings of an outdoorsman

One Week at Home and Back in Montana

“Ha, I knew it! You ended up not going fishing or shooting, while back home. You wrote in your last article that you’ll probably just bum around. You wrote that as an out so when you didn’t go fishing or shooting you could say you said that.”

As predicted, aside from my sunrise jaunts into the woods, I never went fishing or shooting. I do have a reasonable excuse, though. I spent the time off with my sons and they preferred stay inside an air-conditioned home versus outside in the heat.

The week went by pretty quick, and now here I am waiting to board a flight to Bozeman. I won’t lie; I’m excited. I am ready to get out of here. After being in a small town — Darby — for so long, I felt an elevated level of anxiety being back here. The noise, traffic, busyness; everything just got to me. “Maybe you’re just saying that as an excuse for you being in a hurry to get back to Montana?”

Today is pretty much going to be spent traveling and getting settled in. I’ll land in Bozeman, pickup my rental, then make my way up to Butte. Tomorrow I’ll get into the work truck and pick up my outdoor gear. I think I have one meeting, but it should be short, leaving me plenty of time to explore. One way or another I’ll find a way to go fishing this week, although, getting out of the hotel and finding a house is more of a priority. “There you go again allowing yourself an out in case you don’t go fishing.”
