musings of an outdoorsman

We all have something odd we do

We all seem to have a bit of odd behavior, which to us seems like normal behavior. Many can go a lifetime without anyone finding out. For others, it’s behavior that is publicly overt. These quirks can be anywhere from amusing to off-putting. Myself? I’m no exception.

Day break has come early. I detect the morning light creeping in around the edges of my blackout curtain and know I’ve slept in much longer than I’m used to. It’s either that, or daylight comes sooner this far north at this time of year. Add to that, I’m an hour ahead compared to home. No biggie. I’m well rested and ready to start my day.

As is the routine back home. You know, I have to stop saying back home. This is my new home for the next several months, but I digress.

As I was saying, my morning routine consists of getting up, taking a shower, shaving in the shower, getting out, get dressed, wipe down the chrome spigots in the shower and sink, make my bed and head out the door. Okay, I get it I like my bed made and don’t like water spots on any chrome faucets. At what point is it considered odd behavior to do those two things, especially the latter? I’ll tell you when. When It’s become so much a part of my life that I even do it in hotel rooms. Yes, I admit it. I will not leave my hotel room without making my bed or making sure the chrome faucets are wiped down and free of water spots. I have to imagine that when housekeeping makes their way to my room, I’ve made their day just a bit easier. Maybe it is a bit neurotic of me to wipe down the faucets and spigots. Then again, I’m also the guy who feels extremely anxious if I’m not at least an hour early to a job site. Yes, it’s crazy I know. My co-workers already know, If I’m ever passed clock-in time, something must have happened, and I don’t mean traffic or sleeping in. Though those things may seem like odd behavior, I don’t see them as odd bad behavior. In fact, some people may appreciate it.

Now, that guy this morning at breakfast, that’s a whole different story. I’m sure he found it perfectly normal doing what he was doing, but I assure you, me and those around him found his actions rude and off putting. It is what it is. Besides, I’m in Montana, so it’s not all that bad
