Wow! It’s been a month since I’ve been here. It really has gone by in the blink of an eye. Funny how plans don’t work out exactly as one hopes. I thought I’d be fishing several times a week. Initially, that’s exactly how it seemed. That first week, I hit rivers and creeks nearly everyday. Then one day Mother Nature woke up in a bad mood and rained on my parade causing all kinds of havoc. The rivers and creeks rapidly rose and have remained that way for quite some time. It’s not until this week I’ve noticed the waterline receding a bit. That was until last night when Mother Nature decided to unleash barrels of water. It was a short lived hosedown, so hopefully didn’t impact the rivers and creeks too bad.
I received some news yesterday which is leaving me a bit pensive. We may be leaving to southwest Montana next month for the remainder of our stay. I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but all signs seem to point in that direction. Oh well, new destination means new outdoors opportunities. It’s not set in stone, so not going to get my feathers ruffled.
“If you dislike traveling so much, why did you come to Montana?” That was the question one of my colleagues asked me.
As weird as it sounds, I didn’t come for the money. I came for, well, Montana. As an outdoorsman, I wanted to come to an outdoorsman’s paradise. For some, Montana is the mecca for hunting and fishing.
The truth is I absolutely abhor traveling internationally. There is nothing about it I like. People who I let know how I feel about traveling, often look at me cross-eyed and confused.
It took some time to figure out my disdain for travel, but I finally got it. As someone who’s traveled extensively, I feel I have a firm grasp on the reasons why. Aside from the airports, flights, transportation, and hotels, I honestly get anxiety trying to adapt to the societal norms of other countries. One can do this but can’t do that. Oh that’s not cool here, etc.. Not speaking the language exasperates the anxiety. Beside, I’ve not been able to explore all of the US countryside yet, so why in the hell would I start in another country when I’ve not finished at home?
