musings of an outdoorsman

General Ramblings

Boy, it sure has been raining a lot, with only brief bouts of sun peering through the gray covered sky. As I write this, thunder is rolling across the sky.

The river and creeks are flowing very high. Creeks that are typically small and slow moving have transformed into small rivers. As for the Bitterroot itself, well, it’s on a whole other level.

“Damn I love that sound.” The thunder just clapped again. The rain is coming. You can see it falling in the distance.

I had plans on fishing this weekend, but the weather and water conditions is just not making it appealing. It’s okay. I had a hell of a week at work. It’s for the best I stayed in and rested this weekend.

It’s hard to believe this week will mark one month I’ve been here. Time sure has gone by quickly.

“Whoa, that was a loud one.” The thunder sure clapped hard that time.

As I was saying, Time sure has passed quickly. At this rate, it’ll be no time before I head back. But before that, the water will recede a bit and I’ll be able to get some much-wanted fishing in.

I feel a little closer to being a Montanan now. The first opportunity I had, I opened a bank account with my home address here in Montana. It’s not because I set out to do it from the outset, rather it was a matter of convenience for certain transactions. My home bank doesn’t have any branches in Montana and I wasn’t willing to drive to Idaho, although I’m sure the road trip would be lovely.

I did manage to get out a bit this weekend, mainly to explore some more. The intermittent rain and cool weather was just perfect for hanging out on a rock and smoking a cigar. “I really need to get that cigar smoking under control.”

Well, let’s see what the week brings me. I still have crew out on covid, but seem to be settled in with the new guys. Tomorrow should be fun.
